FY 2012 Priority 2 90% Requests to be Funded
July 12, 2012

Yesterday, USAC sent a letter to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC -- the agency that sets all E-rate policy) indicating that there is a total of $1.050 million available to be carried-forward from previous years. The letter stated, "We believe such funds would be sufficient to make commitments at the 90% discount level for Priority 2 requests for Funding Year 2012."

Carry-forward funding is a result of unspent funds from previous years and was expected only to be in the $500-600 million range. Although the FCC still must officially declare the exact amount of funding that will be used to fund FY 2012 applications, this announcement is clearly welcome news to the 103 Pennsylvania applicants that submitted Priority 2 E-rate applications (internal connections and the basic maintenance of internal connections) at the 90% discount level, requesting about $30 million.

The exact date that USAC will begin funding FY 2012 P2 applications remains unknown but likely will not be for a few more months as they continue to process Priority 1 applications (telecom and Internet).
